GDC announces newest dealer Sonic and its first deployment of GDC servers to US cinemas

As a strategic move to consolidate its position in the US market, GDC Technology (“GDC”) announces further expansion of its cinema dealer and service network with the addition of Sonic Equipment Company (“Sonic”), the well known Kansas-based digital cinema integration company specializing in independent cinemas.

Founded in the early 1970’s, Sonic has been a cinema solution provider servicing customers across the Midwest from Ohio to Texas. It has since grown into a company servicing nearly 400 screens in 8 states and has recently become a major digital cinema integrator for independent movie theatre chains (for CBG members). In its push for digital conversion among independent theatre owners, Sonic has created a Complete Digital Package which offers financing options and a low-cost service program.

Soon after becoming GDC’s partner for digital roll out in the US, Sonic was quick to secure its first contract to deploy GDC servers to cinemas in the country. Sonic has since either finished or in the process of deploying GDC servers in the following movie theatres:
Chisholm Trail 8, Newton, KS
Keystone Cinemas, Bardstown, KY
Guymon, Guymon, MO
Missouri Cinema Six, Clinton, MO
Frontier Stage Theatre, Hill City, KS
Dream Theatre, Rusell, KS
Kickingbird Cinema, Edmond, OK
Norbert Benoit Center Theatre, Smith Center, KS

“Sonic offers a full range of products and services, from simple hardware sales to financing and maintenance packages,” says Eric L. Olson, director of operations, Sonic Equipment Company. “Adding GDC digital cinema servers to our line of offerings was a natural fit for us. GDC servers have been on the market for ten years and show the highest level of reliability available today.”

“GDC’s unbending commitment to highest quality manufacturing and continuous innovation in bringing advance features such as Closed Captioning, Emergency Handling such as fast moving of movie from one auditorium to another within a few minutes and RealD’s 3D EQ to the digital cinema industry has won us many fans in the US,” said Dr. Man-Nang CHONG, founder and CEO of GDC Technology “GDC is happy to add high profile Sonic to our growing list of high quality cinema dealers in the US.”

GDC Announces New Ingest and Content Swap Capabilities on SA-2100 Family of Digital Cinema Servers

GDC Technology (“GDC”) is pleased to announce that it has added in multiple new features into its entire line of SA-2100 servers.

These include:

• Instant import of data drives – allows instant transfer of data drives (i.e. HDD) from one SA-2100 to another, making it possible to move a movie quickly from one screen to another. The entire movie (data) transfer process can be completed within a few minutes.

• Instant playback from any CRU drive on the SA-2100A for emergency – allows content received on a CRU Dataport drive to play back directly from the drive without ingesting. This is useful in emergency situations where the theatre receives content at the last minute.

• Instant playback of content held on the GDC TMS (Theatre Management System) for emergency – allows content residing on the TMS to play back directly through streaming from the TMS without ingesting at the screen server.

The addition of these new capabilities is in response to NATO’s “Digital Systems Requirements”, as well as feedback from customers that these emergency handling capabilities were indeed much desirable. GDC has decided that all existing GDC SA-2100 line of servers will get these new features in the next software upgrade, and servers shipped from May 1st 2009 will have these features built-in.

GDC Announces SA-2100A Digital Cinema Server Deployment with Epic Theatres

GDC Technology (GDC) has struck another deal in the U.S. market. This new contract with EPIC Theatres involves the deployment of 25 GDC SA-2100A series servers into its cinemas. EPIC Theatres is a privately held motion picture theatre circuit based in DeLand, Florida. Founded in 2003, EPIC Theatres is operated by third generation exhibitors whose family built its first theatre in 1947. It currently operates 39 screens, located at 6 sites, in 3 southern states in the U.S.

EPIC Theatres took a cautious and methodical approach in its digital conversion program. It began with the trial run of one single GDC SA-2100A server at the EPIC Multiplex in Deland, Florida. Having fully tested the server and satisfied with its performance, EPIC placed an initial order of 8 servers for a 50% digital multiplex in Clermont, Florida which was set to open in April 2009. This was followed by another order for their 100% fully digital 16-plex in St. Augustine, Florida.

EPIC began small with a lone GDC SA-2100A server, said EPIC Theatres Vice President, Clint DeMarsh. It quickly became clear to us that the machine has most, if not all, of what we wanted for our theatres. We are impressed by the advanced functionality of the SA-2100A server and also GDC's first-class customer service.

GDC is pleased to receive the acceptance from a meticulous exhibitor, said Dr. Man-Nang CHONG, founder and CEO of GDC Technology. We are glad to see repeat orders from EPIC within such a short span of time; such confidence in us is flattering.

GDC Announces SA-2100A Digital Cinema Server Deployment with United Entertainment Corporation’s Cinema

With more U.S. theatre operators beginning to embrace digital technology, GDC is riding high on this digital conversion wave with a number of recent successes in the U.S. market. The latest is a deployment contract with United Entertainment Corporation (“UEC”) to install GDC’s SA-2100A series servers into its cinemas. UEC is a privately held motion picture theatre circuit and entertainment company based in Minnesota operating over 100 cinema screens.

UEC joins a number of other prominent independent cinema chains throughout the US in choosing GDC’s cinema servers as their digital cinema server of choice.

“UEC is pleased to partner with GDC Technology in bringing Digital Cinema to our locations,” stated Mike Daniels – Development Manager, United Entertainment Corp. “We found GDC's excellent customer service, advanced product and ease of use to be the compelling factors that led us to our decision.”

Launched in ShowEast 2008, GDC’s highly acclaimed SA-2100A server is GDC’s flag-ship server product which has scored well with many exhibitors worldwide. “The SA-2100A offers the best choices in technology, performance and reliability to our customers while keeping the price affordable,” said Dr. Man-Nang CHONG, founder and CEO of GDC Technology. “UEC is among our growing list of U.S. exhibitors who have clearly recognized and appreciated the GDC offer; we are hopeful to win the hearts and minds of even more U.S. exhibitors in the near future.”
